As the easternmost island of the West Indies, Barbados is a small island (14 miles wide by 21 miles long) which lies outside the main arc of the Caribbean's Windward Islands chain. Its south coast is known for its nightlife, west-coast for the clear beaches, and the east coast for its seclusion. In between, you'll find lush green hills and a nation steeped in its colonial heritage.

There is so much to do here when you vacation! You can take an underground tram through majestic caves and see sparkling stalagmites and glistening deep pools - or stay dry while you learn about the mysteries of the ocean in a submarine.

People have traveled to Barbados for many years to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the island society. Even George Washington once visited this haven in 1751. Barbados doesn't paint its history with war relics, but with a colorful British flair as well as a natural beauty all its own.

Currency: The Barbados dollar, but the U.S. dollar is widely accepted.

Banking: Most banks are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and until 5 on Fridays.
